In 1894, Joseph Holick founded the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band establishing 2019 as the 125th anniversary year. Accordingly, the Texas Aggie Band Association decided to memorialize Holick’s leadership and vision by selecting his Aggie Band Brass as the symbol.
Uniformed, Holick wears his kepi and chasseur horn insignia pinned on the front (left). Though the brass varied while the Aggie Band was being organized, it would end up becoming the 125th anniversary symbol we see today (below).
At 26 years old, Joseph Holick would be the first bandmaster of the 13 member Aggie Band. His 30 year tenure would come to an end in 1924, where he would pass the mace off to Lt. Col. Richard Dunn.
This three layer ornament features the 125th Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band symbol and behind it, the first few measures of the melody of “The Noble Men of Kyle”. The famous tune is the signature marching piece and nickname of the Aggie Band.
